Senior local authority managers should understand the risks of fraud and ensure councils are using the right methods to tackle what has become a burgeoning problem, a counter-fraud expert has claimed.

The comments follow publication last week of the fourth study by accountancy firm PFK Littlejohn which estimated the financial cost of fraud globally is £9.76 trillion.
