Counties are ready for long-term care reforms

The door has been left open for a long-term cure for the ailing social care sector - and county councils are ready to step through it, says Cllr Colin Noble.

Since the provisional local government finance settlement (LGFS) was published last month, the Government has rightly acknowledged a long-term fix for social care is necessary, highlighting the short-term nature of the measures announced.

In the County Council's Network's (CCN) LGFS consultation submission, we highlight a fundamental mismatch between funding and demand for social care in county areas. The Government's willingness to find a long-term solution is a welcome move; and we will be advocating solutions in the lead up to the spring Budget.
