County threatens to leave SEERA in row over waste

West Sussex CC has threatened to quit the South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) in a row over waste.

Council leader, Henry Smith, said the authority was prepared to leave the assembly over plans for the county to provide landfill for 2.6m tonnes of waste from London. The proposal is part of the assembly's South East plan, and would see West Sussex take 1.6m tonnes of waste from London between now and 2015 and a further 1m tonnes between 2015 and 2025.
