The authority behind a controversial local waste-disposal charge has said it is aware of other councils keen to introduce fees for ‘tips' – providing the public can tolerate the cost.

Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP), which has overseen the introduction of local charges to use tips worth up to £1.20, has warned councils across the UK are seeking to roll out similar schemes as they attempt to shore up their finances and preserve key services.
