CQC 'will act' after probe exposes care home abuse

The Care Quality Commission has vowed to act on key recommendations of the review into Winterbourne View Hospital.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has vowed to act on key recommendations of the serious case review into Winterbourne View Hospital.

The review, conducted by South Gloucestershire's adult safeguarding board, followed a BBC TV Panorama investigation into abuse of adults with learning difficulties at the hospital, which was operated by Castlebeck Ltd but has subsequently been closed down. CQC chair, Dame Jo Williams, described the case as a ‘watershed moment' for the watchdog. ‘We did not respond as we should have and we have taken steps to put things right,' she said.
