Crossing the boundaries

A ground-breaking idea that saw six councils forming a partnership to improve support for vulnerable children has just been singled out for praise in a national review. Simon Brown explains the inception and success of the Cross-Regional Project

I have always been an optimist, but it still amazes and delights me that an idea we first floated nine years ago to help vulnerable children has been developed into a nationally-acclaimed scheme.

The Cross-Regional Project (CRP), a partnership of six local authorities, has been heralded as an example of ‘what can be achieved' by Sir Martin Narey's recently-published independent review of children's residential care in England.
