Croydon LBC is lobbying the Government to write off its debt despite suggestions a decision will not be made until the summer.

The annual cost of Croydon's ‘toxic' debt – debt that is not backed by assets – is £38m a year, with the council's total general fund debt of more than £1.4bn costing it £71m next year.
