Croydon's bold and budget-friendly alliance

Health and care integration is a cherished goal among politicians, civil servants and the NHS. Manju Shahul-Hameed explains why a cutting-edge partnership in Croydon now needs government backing to fulfil its potential

After another whirlwind General Election, one hot topic on doorsteps remains on the national agenda – how we look after older people. Like many, I was concerned to see Theresa May fluff her manifesto pledge on how we pay for adult social care. With a backdrop of dwindling funding, soaring demand and an ageing population, this is one of the biggest challenges in our society and it requires a well-planned and coherent approach.

Here in Croydon, a new alliance of health and social care professionals has tackled this thorny issue by launching the country's most integrated scheme.
