Cuts 'steepest since 1948'

Proposals to return a budget surplus by 2018/19 would necessitate the lowest levels of public spending since records began.

Chancellor George Osborne's proposal to return a budget surplus by 2018/19 through a public spending freeze that year would necessitate the lowest levels of public spending since records began in 1948, an influential economics think-tank has claimed.
