Actress Dame Helen Mirren has backed a campaign by Age UK to encourage people to check on elderly neighbours and make sure they stay warm this winter.

According to new research by the charity, more than 700,000 older people say they often feel lonely, and more than half of all elderly people consider the television as their main form of company.
