Who'd be a national politician during a crisis? After the Government was forced into an embarrassing U-turn over the 45p tax rate debacle, the odds on Prime Minister Liz Truss serving the quickest-ever term in office shortened considerably.

She was only beaten in the odds to be the next Cabinet minister to depart by her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng.
