DCLG to hold pension talks, but unions prepare for autumn strikes

Ministers and trade unions committed to hold talks on pension reform.

Trade unions have committed to hold talks on pensions reform on a scheme level basis with ministers in parallel with central discussions, but have not ruled out plans to ramp up industrial action this autumn.

Letters exchanged between TUC general secretary Brendan Barber and Danny Alexander, chief secretary to the Treasury, reveal local government pensions schemes have raised a number of practical issues which unions feel need further consideration.
