English councils have been given until February to apply for a share of the £530m of government cash provided for high-speed internet links.

English councils have been given until February to apply for a share of the £530m of government cash set aside to roll out high-speed internet links.

The funding aims to encourage telecoms companies to provide 'superfast' broadband, defined as speeds greater than 24Mbps, to areas where they might claim it would not be economically viable.
