Charities have welcomed ministers' U-turn over their plan to scrap mobility payments for disabled people living in residential care.

Disability minister, Maria Miller, confirmed last week that disabled people in residential care would be able to keep claiming the mobility component of the disability living allowance (DLA) and the personal independence payment (PIP), after months of pressure from third sector groups.
