Delivering school transport services during a fuel crisis

The cost of living has been especially felt in home-to -school transport, says Nicola Beach. The Government may need to look at the particular county-based issues in delivering it and set out specific and targeted solutions, she adds.

Local authorities have not been immune to the cost of living crisis, with the sharp increases in fuel prices since the turn of the year having a substantive impact across many of our budget areas.

It has been especially felt in home-to -school transport, where providers are telling local authorities they are making losses and handing back routes, then re-tendering contracts at higher rates.
