WORKFORCE

Democratic Services Manager

£46,733 – £50,868 pa + car allowance of £2,520 pa
Basingstoke

This is an exciting time to join the Borough. As the area continues to grow and thrive, we are committed to improving all of our services to ensure that we meet the evolving needs of the people who choose to live, work and visit here. Effective governance underpins everything we do for our customers – and now we need an ambitious professional to lead our Democratic Services team.

Challenges within the elections arena, taking on a renewed council Constitution and approach to democratic services, means you'll have the opportunity to lead and develop a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to delivering a high quality service for customers and stakeholders. In addition, you'll be responsible for providing accurate and timely advice to members and officers on more complex governance matters, supporting the Monitoring Officer and assisting the Returning Officer alike.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the council and influence the quality of our democratic services. As such, it calls for an inspirational leader with proven experience of leading a similar governance function within a large and complex multi-functional organisation.

You will also have:

·    first hand experience of working effectively with senior officers and members
·    strong people management skills and the ability to create a positive performance culture
·    exceptional communication and teamworking skills
·    a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, discretion and personal credibility

If you can demonstrate the required management experience and practical expertise in the areas of democratic services then we look forward to seeing your application.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Lisa Kirkman, Head of Commissioning and Governance, on 01256 845345 or email lisa.kirkman@basingstoke.gov.uk

Closing date for applications: 13 July 2014.
