Design award for the restored roundhouse

Camden's landmark Roundhouse has been named overall winning project at the 2006 Design Awards, hosted by the London borough.

The historic former engine hall was restored to retain its majestic performance space at the level of the original rail tracks, as a highly flexible auditorium and performance area. The bi-annual awards, run by the council since 1998, celebrate high-quality standards of urban design in the borough. Other winners included grade two-listed Fitzjohn's Primary School, Green Turnstile House, and Tercelet Terrace.
