Details of parking 'cash cow' to be made public

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has called on councils to reveal how much revenue they raise locally from parking charges.

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has called on councils to reveal how much revenue they raise locally from parking charges, as part of plans to improve the sector's accountability.

Councils earned £1.27bn of income from car parking in 2010/11 – according to the most recently available statistics – and will soon be required to publish the number of local off-street and on-street parking places, the revenue they make from them, and information on parking fines.
