Call for devolution of minimum wage enforcement

Newham LBC and the GMB trade union have called for the power to enforce underpayment of the national minimum wage to be devolved to councils.

Newham LBC and the GMB trade union have called for the power to enforce underpayment of the national minimum wage to be devolved to councils.

A report by the two organisations estimates that UK workers are losing £533m to employers that are ignoring the law but that between 2009 to 2014 there was a 60% reduction in businesses inspected by government enforcement officers.
