The Department for Transport (DfT) today issued new guidance designed to help local highway authorities reduce the multimillion-pound cost of road maintenance and tackle a record backlog of potholes.

Publishing its 'pothole review', the DfT's recommendations centred around timely interventions, carrying out permanent repairs and communicating such work effectively to the public.
