Director of Environment and Transport

Director of Environment and Transport Up to £127k

Leicestershire County Council is one of the highest performing authorities in the country, with a strong focus on the needs of our customers and an ethos of excellence. Our environment, transportation and highways services are fundamental to the lives of our communities and the businesses that are based in the County.

We are currently recruiting a new Director of Environment and Transport who will manage a wide portfolio including highways, transportation, recycling and waste disposal.

This includes the management and maintenance of 2,575 miles of roads across the County, numerous bypasses and town centre developments, a major waste partnership, park and ride schemes, and various cutting edge partnerships with neighbouring authorities. The department has built an impressive reputation, but we are constantly aware of the need to ensure a high level of responsiveness when it comes to customer queries or complaints.

In this respect, relationships with Elected Members as well as with complainants are equally important.Like many other authorities, Leicestershire is facing some tough financial challenges, and this department will play its part in developing new ways of working. Candidates will need to have senior experience of managing one or more of the services in this portfolio but we are not looking for a particular professional background.

What is more important is the ability to offer strategic leadership, bring innovation, focus on efficiencies, and operate successfully in a political organisation with a strong customer service focus. For more information please view: Leicestershire County Council website or talk to our advising consultant Luke Judd on 0113 205 6077.

Closing date: 10 May 2013.
