As little light reading for lockdown 3.0, Diary delved into the pages of The Secret Life of Special Advisers. Written by Peter Cardwell, one-time SpAd to former communities secretary James Brokenshire, Diary was hoping for an exposé.

Alas, Mr Cardwell has been far too discrete when it comes to dishing the dirt. Not a single reputation has been ruined in the making of this book – although the Ministry press office's grammar comes in for a bit of a hammering.
