District bosses fight for control of local plans

District council leaders have warned it is ‘vitally important’ they should keep control of local plans despite Whitehall threats to strip them of their powers.

District council leaders have warned it is ‘vitally important' they should keep control of local plans despite Whitehall threats to strip them of their powers.

Launching details of the Government's new Housing and Planning Bill, prime minister David Cameron said he expected all councils to have local plans for their areas by 2017 or ministers will intervene and will ‘work with local people to produce a plan for them'.
