Dorset's police and crime commissioner has called for plans to divide his country into two single-tier authorities to be put to the public vote.

Martyn Underhill said he was both ‘surprised and disappointed' by the consultation, which was launched last week by local authorities in Dorset to cut the number of councils from nine to two.
