Do U-turns work?

Boris Johnson performed one of the quickest political U-turns we have ever seen over the Owen Paterson affair, but is this really a good way to do policy, asks Dan Corry.

The whole Owen Paterson affair has so much about it that it is not surprising it dominated political chat for some time.

Everyone will have noticed one of the fastest U-turns we have seen for many years. On one day, the Government responded to their colleague and former Cabinet minister Owen Paterson being found guilty of ‘an egregious case of paid advocacy' by forcing through a vote to upheave the whole system for investigating wrongdoing by MPs.
