The number of applications for a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard (DOLs) received by local authorities has fallen for the first time in 18 months, as town hall bosses come out against its potential replacement.

The number of applications for a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard (DOLs) received by local authorities has fallen for the first time in 18 months, as town hall bosses come out against its potential replacement.

According to the latest government figures, councils received 9% fewer applications (34,500) between July and September, compared to the previous three months.
