Devolution in Yorkshire has been a political football for many years. The idea of One Yorkshire was booted into touch, but now we are moving towards a combined authority and elected mayor for the areas of North Yorkshire and York.
However, the Government has made it clear that any devolution deal will need to be preceded by the establishment of one or more unitary councils, formed from the district and borough council areas of Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby, and including the current unitary authority of York.
