The most senior town hall Liberal Democrat has urged councils to put their cash reserves into a new public sector investment fund, rather than give in to ministers' demands to use the money to plug spending shortfalls.

Cllr Richard Kemp, leader of the Liberal Democrats at the LGA, has thrown his support behind the forthcoming Public Sector Deposit Fund (PSDF), which will be launched by investment manager, CCLA, in May.
