Opening the door to social value

Extending the Social Value Act in the next Parliament would be a good call for whoever formed the next Government, argues Peter Holbrook.

The election result means a Government somehow putting together a Queen's Speech that gets through both Houses of Parliament, makes a difference to people's lives and meets manifesto commitments.

Needless to say, it will be no easy task. But the challenges for a new administration remain the same - balancing the books, making public money go further, improving people's lives and rebalancing the economy to be more economically, environmentally and socially productive.

So a good place to start is a radical extension of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, which already encourages a more rounded approach to procurement.
