Dorset says 'no' to shared services arrangements

Purbeck DC decides not to join a shared service arrangement with neighbouring Dorest authorities.

A Dorset district council has decided not to join a shared service arrangement with neighbouring authorities.

Purbeck DC, which has previously considered collaboration with authorities to the west of the district, undertook a business case to evaluate a partnership with Christchurch BC and East Dorset DC – which lie to the east.

Purbeck leader, Cllr Gary Suttle successfully passed a recommendation that any decision on shared service arrangements should await the May 2015 national and local elections.

‘We have worked closely with them on a business case for potential partnership but it was their decision whether to go ahead or not and they have decided it is not right for them at this time,' said Christchurch leader, Cllr Ray Nottage.

Leader of East Dorset DC, Cllr Ian Monks, said the authority would be happy to discuss the proposal further should a future approach be made.
