ECONOMIC GROWTH

Driving growth after May

With commercial confidence returning and continuing low interest rates for the foreseeable future, local authorities are well placed to drive further growth, argue Clive Bleasdale and Patricia Grinye.

The Parliamentary General Election and the Local Elections will be upon us soon. Issues relating to steps to aid recovery of the economy, infrastructure road and rail links and growth in employment rates across the country are likely to be at the heart of the pre election debate.

We are as a business in the frontline of activity within local government in our legal work and are presently seeing a marked upturn in confidence returning to the market.  Development transactions which had effectively been "on ice" during the years of the recession appear to have new life again.  Progress on site in connection with these regeneration projects is visible with developers on site moving projects forward to practical completion.

We believe in the present economic climate with the economy showing signs of recovery this trend will continue and local authorities are well positioned to help drive growth post 2015.
