The mayoral elections this May are a new milestone for UK devolution.  More mayors are being elected in areas such as North Yorkshire while others are receiving additional powers as the fresh deals agreed with central government come into effect.  Elsewhere, the leadership of established mayoral combined authorities is being contested.

At its core, devolution is about delegation: giving greater powers to the regions to address the needs and priorities of local people.  Decisions made more locally can support positive social outcomes, helping to reduce regional inequalities and drive inclusive growth.
