A leading city council director has warned that drug and alcohol problems among parents are leading to a sharp rise in the number and cost of children in care.

David Crawford, director of social care at Glasgow City Council, said the council had 300 children in residential care and 1,200 in foster care, and ‘the profile is of younger children coming into care.'
