Duncan Smith defends 'bedroom tax'

Housing applicants on waiting lists will benefit from spare room subsidy, work and pensions secretary argues.

Work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith has defended his controversial 'bedroom tax' reforms, claiming housing applicants on waiting lists will benefit.

In a robust defence of his welfare changes Mr Duncan Smith said the spare room allowance would free up homes for families adding: 'Two million families languish in despair on waiitng lists or in overcrowded homes. Labour doesn't mention them.'
