As Bristol City Council ends its second successful year as the UK’s first UNESCO Learning City, John Readman reflects on the impact of collaboration when setting out such a major strategic ambition for the future.

Bristol is proud to be recognised as the first UNESCO Learning City in England. This role has opened up opportunities to profile the city globally, most recently in China and Brussels and to make closer connections with its neighbours in Swansea, Glasgow, Limerick and Cork.

Learning Cities are not new and are being developed all over the world to meet local and national priorities.
