Calls have been made for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to reduce the burden of auditing housing benefit subsidy claims.

DWP wants assurances that the hundreds of millions of pounds it hands over to councils every year is being spent correctly and prescribes how it wants the sector audited.
