Work on hold
Much of the work of bailiffs and creditors have been put on hold as the Government stepped in with regulations to protect those affected by the pandemic. With many of these debt collection restrictions due to be lifted by next year, it's expected that there will be a surge in collections: as councils looks to recover the £4.4 billion1 of arrears on their balance sheets. In a bid to create clearer rules for bailiffs and sanctions imposed for those who break them, the new Enforcement Conduct Authority (ECA), which launches later in the year, will replace self-regulation, develop a series of protocols and establish a standardised complaints process.
