For local government and indeed, broader society, there are few more urgent priorities than solving our multi-faceted housing crisis.
We face worsening rates of homelessness as the rapidly rising cost of living leaves many unable to afford rent or mortgages. Meanwhile, the arrival of more refugees and asylum seekers, and necessary moves to disperse them from inappropriate hotel accommodation, adds to the pressure, as does the increased use of houses for short-term lets. With demand for homes exceeding supply, many longstanding residents find themselves priced out of the neighbourhoods they regard as home.
