Political parties and the Local Government Association (LGA) are being urged to give greater counselling support for their councillors and MPs who lose their seats in the May elections.
She added: ‘Most of my interviewees grieved at their loss of office and some struggled to find employment. Few received support from their parties. It was as if they had literally been dropped from sight and many felt hurt. One told me: ‘It was like a bereavement except there was no funeral.'"
