Empowering communities – what works and why it matters

A report published in Groundwork’s 40th year sets out what works in helping to empower communities to take action on poverty and the environment. Graham Duxbury highlights the key findings.

We appear to be living through a period of perpetual crisis – emerging from COVID into a cost of living disaster, with politicians declaring a health and care emergency while knowing that all of this will be made much worse if we don't get to grips with climate change. 

We also know that all of these issues impact first and worst on those in our society who have least – least choice about where and how they live and least resilience to cope with unforeseen shocks or seemingly unstoppable global trends.
