Welsh local government minister Lesley Griffiths has announced the end of government intervention at Anglesey Council.
The minister made the announcement that the Welsh Government's intervention will formally end on 31 May during a visit to the local authority, where she addressed a full council meeting.
The Welsh Government appointed five commissioners to run the council in February 2011 following concerns about how the local authority was being run.
‘I am convinced the council can now manage its own affairs without external intervention,' she said.
‘Negotiations towards a stable administration following last month's election and the sustained progress the council has made, gives me confidence in my decision.'
The minister added: ‘To ensure progress is maintained beyond the intervention, the Welsh Government is currently in discussions with the council, commissioners and the Welsh Local Government Association to determine the level of ongoing support required by the council.'
