Eshalomi beats Davies to become new chair of Commons committee

Vauxhall MP Florence Eshalomi has beaten former Local Government Association chair Shaun Davies in the election to become the new chair of the Commons Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee.

Vauxhall MP Florence Eshalomi has beaten former Local Government Association chair Shaun Davies in the election to become the new chair of the Commons Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee.

MPs voted on Wednesday for the former Lambeth councillor to take over from the committee's long-serving chair Clive Betts. With 558 votes cast, Eshalomi secured 437 to Davies' 121.
