Essex: The opera

London's Royal Opera House has revealed multimillion-pound plans with Thurrock Council to build a new production centre in Essex.

David Marlow, East of England Development Agency chief executive, revealed the project would be part of a campus that could include a Green Skills Programme and construction centre. The scheme is expected to generate up to 1,000 jobs.

He said: ‘These are vital and transformative initiatives that, together with a new
Environmental Infrastructure Fund, will help the Gateway to secure a global reputation for excellence in environmental technologies and infrastructure.'
