The EU should assist councils

It is unfair for councils to have to pick up the cost of helping vulnerable and exploited immigrant workers, says Michael Burton.

In the 1890s, concerned about the influx of Russian and Polish Jewish refugees fleeing Tsarist pograms to live in London's East End, Prime Minister Lord Salisbury introduced the Aliens Exclusion Act.

The noble peer complained that the refugees were a burden on London ratepayers.
