The Cabinet Office has announced the first wave of councils to join the Commissioning Academy – a programme designed to produce 'capable, confident and courageous procurement people' to design and deliver value-for-money public services.

First outlined in the Open Public Services White Paper from 2011, the 'Commissioning academy' programme was launched by the Cabinet Office in February as a virtual college.
