Former local government minister Sir Bob Neill has expressed concerns over proposed reforms that could allow the suspension of councillors who violate codes of conduct.

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner announced at the Local Government Association's (LGA) annual conference in Harrogate last month that the Government intended to consult on changes to the standards regime.
