Government regulations introducing a £95,000 cap on local government exit payments are a ‘lawyers' charter to print money,' the trade union representing the most senior managers in the sector is expected to tell Whitehall.

The draft Association of Local Authority Chief Executives (ALACE) response to the Government consultation on the cap, seen by The MJ, said the complexity of issues arising from the regulations, including the various exemptions and questions about how the cap would operate in individual cases, would provide a ‘rich field for confusion, dispute and challenge'.
