Ofsted chief Sir Michael Wilshaw calls on local authorities to split the post of director of children's services into two so councils can focus on driving up the performance of school academies.

Ofsted chief Sir Michael Wilshaw has called on local authorities to split the post of director of children's services (DCS) into two so councils can focus on driving up the performance of school academies.

In an exclusive interview with The MJ, Sir Michael said: 'If I were a council chief executive I'd want someone to take responsibility for education. It's currently a massive brief for one person especially as we're putting local authorities under the cosh.
