The Local Government Association (LGA), the national representative body for local government, is seeking an Executive Director to join its new Leadership team. The LGA acts as the voice of local government in England and Wales, representing the sector as an authoritative advocate in promoting better local government. This is a key appointment for the LGA and will play a critical role in supporting, promoting and facilitating local authority improvement.

Supporting local authorities to adapt to the challenges facing public services in the context of unprecedented financial savings is more important than ever before. We are therefore seeking an exceptional ambassador for the sector who can work with our members to promote a culture of self-regulation, peer support and accountability to communities.

This post is a unique opportunity that will position you at the heart of the local government improvement agenda, working closely with politicians and chief officers across local government and the wider public sector. Reporting to Carolyn Downs, our new Chief Executive, you will also work closely with the Chairman, Sir Merrick Cockell, political group leaders and other leading councillors.

Bringing together councils across England and Wales to share innovation and best practice requires outstanding communication skills and a strong commitment to the improvement and efficiency agenda. You will also bring inspirational leadership to the role and utilise your impressive track record of delivering high quality local government services to engage at the most senior levels.
