'Exemptions' for direct UC payments says DWP

The DWP has confirmed there will be exemptions to the direct payment of housing benefits under the universal credit regime.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed there will be exemptions to the direct payment of housing benefits to residents under the universal credit (UC) regime.

The announcement is likely to be welcomed by critics in local government, who have warned direct payments could undermine councils' housing policies.
